Two international residencies in the arts are now receiving applications for 2009. The Fulbright Creative-New Zealand Pacific Writer’s Residency enables a New Zealand writer of Pacific heritage to work for three months on a creative writing project exploring Pacific identity, culture or history at the University of Hawai’i. This residency is for a maximum of three months and covers travel costs of NZ$3,000 for a return economy airfare to Hawai’i; rental accommodation costs of NZ$3,000 per month; a stipend of NZ$6,000 per month; and a basic health and accident insurance cover up to US$100,000. The closing date for applications is 6 April 2009. Past recipients of this award include filmmaker Sima Urale, performance poet Tusiata Avia, playwright Victor Rodger and children’s author Sarona Aiono-Iosefa. The JENESYS Residency is an opportunity for a young (35 and under) professional practising in the fields of video, film, visual art or computer music to work in Japan (Sapporo) for up to two months. The residency is available for a period from mid-May to mid-July 2009, and provides for a return economy airfare between Japan and New Zealand, accommodation, and a stipend of 240,000 JPY per month to cover per diems and production costs. Interested artists should submit a written application to Asia New Zealand Foundation no later than 5pm, Friday 27 March, 2009.
