After London and Vancouver, Morububuna’s Art Comes to Auckland

After drawing significant interest in London and Vancouver, Martin Morububuna’s work has come to Auckland at the Okaioceanikart Gallery. The Papua New Guinean is the current artist in Residence at the De Young Museum in San Francisco. He will be shortly returning to Victoria, Canada, where he will be at Alcheringa Gallery from November 5-13 2009 as part of the Hailans to Ailans exhibition. Morububuna was born in 1957 on Kiriwina, the largest of the Trobriand Islands, in the Milne Bay Province of Papua New Guinea. Today he is recognized as an important contemporary artist whose work has been exhibited in museums and galleries in many countries in the Pacific, Asia, and Europe. Much of his work depicts festivities and rituals associated with the celebrations of life and abundance.
