Pacific Starmap is a home for all Pacific artists to share their journey and guide and support others along the path to success in the arts.The site is inspired by the vision of actor Nathaniel Lees and author Albert Wendt, as a way of sharing their knowledge and inspiration with the Pacific arts community, and is supported by a growing number of Pacific arts champions.
The website has been developed by the Ministry of Pacific Island Affairs as part of its commitment to supporting the cultural and economic growth of Pacific arts in Aotearoa New Zealand and internationally.
Why ‘Pacific Starmap’?
As our ancestors relied on stars for navigation, Pacific Starmap hopes to support new and aspiring artists at the beginning and throughout their careers, by bringing the Pacific arts community together to share its knowledge and learn from each other.
Each month we’ll feature a Champion, who will be available to answer questions about their career. From the 1st of March 2009, Albert Wendt answers questions about his writing, his art, the people and phenomena that influence him, and the key to success.
We’ve also included links to helpful information about getting ahead in the arts, news, and a directory of Pacific artists.
